Jewish Budapest
Budapest has always had a large Jewish community. By the 1930’s about 20% of Budapest’s population were Jews. Ravens Apartment is in the historic Jewish quarter of Pest. This was the last walled Jewish ghetto in Europe and the only ghetto to be spared total annihilation. The loss of lives was considerable.

Budapest currently has the largest Jewish community of Central Europe, with 23 active synagogues, including the Great Synagogue in nearby Dohány Street, the largest synagogue in Europe.

Ravens Apartment

Jewish Heritage
Ravens Apartment was the home of Dr Samuel Kohn, Chief Rabbi of Budapest in the late 19th century. He recorded the history of the Hungarian Jews while living in this apartment. This achievement is commemorated on the heritage plaque outside the apartment building.
